Pierre’s Ice Cream Company has evolved from its humble beginnings in 1932, as a small ice cream shop at East 82nd and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio, to a leading manufacturer of premium ice cream and other frozen dessert products.

Pierre’s Ice Cream Shop, founded by Alexander “Pierre” Bassett, stirred-up fresh premium ice cream daily for customers to enjoy by the cone, cup or hand packed for take home.  As popularity of Pierre’s ice cream grew and distribution expanded to include area restaurants, country clubs and gourmet markets, the chic ice cream parlor outgrew the small space on East 82nd and Euclid. So, Pierre’s teamed up with another small ice cream shop called Royal Ice Cream Company, owned by Sol J. Roth, to open a small factory on Hough Avenue.

In 1960, the Royal Ice Cream Company acquired the Pierre's Ice Cream Company. Royal then began showcasing the Pierre's brand and special recipe, and devoted all of its resources to expanding the line and building the Pierre's name. The next direction for Pierre's was expansion into half-gallon packages, broader distribution beyond Cuyahoga County, and the creation of wonderfully unique and popular flavors for sale in retail stores, as well as ice cream parlors.

Today, Pierre’s Ice Cream Company manufactures and distributes more than 235 Pierre’s brand products and flavors ranging from traditional premium ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and sorbet to Frosted Smoothies® and novelties. 

To remind consumers of Pierre’s dedication to upholding its original, classic recipes, the company continues to use an updated version of the original, eye-catching package design.  In addition to the Pierre’s brand, the company manufactures private label lines and distributes many of these nationally.

Pierre’s Ice Cream Company is continually developing new and unique flavors and product lines such as ¡Hola Fruta!® … a new super premium, all natural, pure fruit sherbet.

Pierre’s remains family-owned and managed. Company president Shelley Roth — Sol Roth’s daughter — and her management team, maintain a tradition of quality and innovation that has kept the brand a regional favorite for three quarters of a century.
